Off for our morning excursion by the very comfortable Viking motor coaches into the medieval old town of Strasbourg in the Petit France inside the canals from the Ill River. The Gothic Cathedral was awe inspiring and totally incomprehensible how the architects and builders were able to complete these structures,
albeit over the span of centuries (which makes it even more unbelievable). Our guide lead us around making sure we knew where the public restrooms were located, she seemed to think that was important for her geriatric followers. We took her up on the suggested Monde du Cafes for a Cafe au Lait + Croissant. Back to Gutenberg Square in front to the namesake’s statue commemorating the invention of the printing press, we reassembled our group for the short walk back to the busses and on to the Viking Honir. Afternoon found us off again to the Alsatian town of Obernai for a tour of the Robert Blank winery.
The tasting was first class and we rather enjoyed learning about the family’s 14 generations of viticulture and wine making. The Rouge d’ Ottrott (Pinot Noir) was particularly pleasing. Back on board, our very rotund chef had prepared an exceptional spread of German specialties and we had a great evening with Tom, Cathy, Tammy and Nancy.
