Cape Breton

In spite of the ETB, we weren’t up early at the Antigonish Evergreen.  Checked with the boys and opted for McD’s b’fast since the motel offering wasn’t too appealing. Karen and I went for some McMuffins and stopped at the Sobeys to pick up some lunch supplies too.  Then we were off to Arisaig park on a geological field trip.  Found the fossil quarry at the Arisaig brook water fall to be very interesting and the boys enjoyed a lengthy search for fossils of Silurian age.  Found some interesting creatures in the red and grey shales outcropping there.  All of my geologically inclined kin would have been proud!  We then followed the coastal drive back around to Antigonish and grabbed some beer and wine at the LCB store before heading on to Cape Breton.  We drove along the Ceilidh trail and found a picnic table were we provided some lunch for the horse flies.  Then it was on to the Glenora Inn to settle in before dinner with Jim and Judy Matheson, owners of the distillery.  Had a lovely visit and dinner generously picked up my Jimmy, then on to the pub to sample some of the product made here. Got the background of the legal battle they had with the Scotch Whisky Society over the use of the word “Glen” in the whisky brand, which Glen Breton eventually prevailed after nine years of litigation. Very fine indeed.
