Oh sure, I’ll post - Manana

Yesterday morning found me lazily rolling out of bed much later than usual, and after catching up on my usual news feeds, I neglected to submit my daily recollections from the day before.  So this morning, I will catch up for the two days.  Our plan to meet up with friends Deb & Ron from Penticton for lunch at Victor’s Place in the Marina unfolded according to plan.  We met their other friends Rick and Lilly + Allan and Lanka (from Castlegar) and enjoyed a few cervecas plus tequila shots with our tacos and enchiladas.

Interested to learn that Lilly’s Mother lives in Cambridge Manor, small world indeed.  After lunch we ambled over to Sticky Fingers where we were entertained by Omar and coiffed a couple more cervecas at this bar where Deb & Ron are familiar with the owners.  In need to replenish our cash, we bid the group farewell and headed over to the ScotiaBank branch to learn that withdrawing cash, even from a Canadian Bank, is a money making enterprise - for the bank.  It seems the Mexicans have discovered exchange rate arbitrage.  Oh well, back to the Villa to wrangle up Don and Mari (who had declined the lunch engagement), and then off to our seemingly endless procession from one eating opportunity to the next, we found a tiny little cocktail bar (Sabor a Fuego) with an open flame grill/oven and had a great parrilla combinada and a couple of Margaritas before carrying on to the mercado grande which is held on Jueves at the Marina.  Strolled around but could not find anything that we didn’t know we couldn’t get along without (well almost, Don did need to get a year’s supply of chocolate tequila, and a couple of smokes) and thus retired to the Villa. The cigars proved to be of very high quality and we lazily inhaled all of that nicotine just to be sure our metabolism was just so.

Next day found us off to a very slow start (nicotine hangover?), which interfered with my getting around to posting, thus this two day report.  Eventually prepared some b’fast taquitos with the chorizo we had on hand which turned out much better than the last time I tried that here at the Owner’s Club a year ago.  My old friend Ziggy Robutka was due to drop by as he is in country for his annual winter retreat. Very small world connections and his Dad, Dr. Leo, had been doctor to Nana Chastek (Anne’s mom) - due to the polish connection.  We had a great visit recounting the tales of our youth in Upper Scarborough Heights (or whatever our old neighbourhood is called?). The visit was interrupted by my semi-weekly family call and we bid Pixie farewell after he said hello to my siblings via Zoom.  Once that was completed, we made our way back over to the Marina in hopes of finding the great Camarones de Coco we enjoyed last year, sadly, Splash has gone under and closed down.  We wandered along the Marina and decided to try PezLimon.  Had a lovely dinner on the promenade, but found the pricing to be rather high.  While it is quite obvious that we’ve chosen to be in a VERY touristy neighbourhood here at the Marina, I’ve found this year to appear to be much more dear than last.  Not sure that is entirely accurate, but things do seem to have a price point more aligned with Palm Springs than San Poncho.
