Walked down to the Fegina area looking for an interesting place to eat. The beaches in this section of Monterosso are bigger and nicer, too bad we didn't get over there for an afternoon. Couldn't find anything interesting so headed back to il borgo vecchio and decided to try Ristorante Belvedere just off the water underneath the train overpass. Once more, the food was excellent and we are getting better at selecting the various piatti's.
Strolled back to the hotel and went up to the rooftop garden to finish off a bottle of vino and the boys hit the sack.
Got up at a reasonable time this morning and had a quick breakfast, got checked out and lugged our stuff up to the car. It had been nice to not be in a hot car for a few days. Took off from 5 terre and made our way to Genova. Got off the Autostrada and headed for Centro and promptly got lost. Phoned the hotel as we were stuck in traffic and while I was trying to describe our location, saw a sign with our hotel name on it and pointing the direction. Only got lost one more time and had to circle back to pick up the trail. Eventually found the Villa Pagoda in Nervi, beautifully restored old mansion and delightful hotel. Wandered down to the promenade along the rocky coastline just below our hotel. Saw several sunning area's where you can hire an umbrella and chair on a flat piece of rock or even a concrete slab. First open restaurant we stumbled on we grabbed a table. The Focaccia e Formaggia turned out to be some kind of cheese/filo pastry thing that wasn't very appetizing. Unfortunately, everyone ordered exactly the same thing so we were all a bit dissapointed - first poor meal which isn't bad for two weeks. Walked back to the hotel and left Karen and the boys at the pool and took a test drive to the airport as we have an early flight to Rome tomorrow morning.
The hotel grounds are beautiful, so we've decided to just sit tight and enjoy the sunshine this afternoon, apparently the restaurant here is very good also. Long travel day tomorrow, but I think everyone is looking forward to getting home.
Over the course of this trip, I have wondered what Europeans must think when traveling to Canada, what with the spacious, bright, functional, clean and free restrooms in abundance, large hotel rooms with two queen size beds and huge bathrooms?
