Paris Day 3
Early starts don't appear to be on the agenda. We went out to find a breakfast place and settled on a nearby Brasserie. Karen's egg soup didn't really appeal to her, but my omelet was pretty good. Then off to locate an ATM and grab a starbucks coffee. Swung back by the hotel and bought museum passes and were off to the Big Bus hop-on-hop-off tour. Rode through the Latin Quarter and along rive gauche, through Place de la Concorde and up Champs Elysees. Hopped off at Arc de Triomphe and climbed to the top via an impressive spiral staircase. Incredible views of Paris from up there. Then on past the Grande Palais/Petite Palais and stopped at Musee de la Marine and Musee de l'Homme (unfortunately closed Tuesdays). Great view of the Eiffel Tower, which was our next stop. Walked around here a bit and then continued. Asked to be let off at an undesignated stop near Musee Rodin. Had lunch at a small cafe - French Onion soup not particularly pleasing. A quick walk through the Musee Rosin to view his famous sculptures (including Le Penseur). Next we walked over to Hotel des Invalides and enjoyed a couple of hours there and in the military museums. Walked back to the designated stop at the Eiffel Tower. By then we began to tire and it was a very cool day which we were not properly dressed for. Nevertheless, went up top for the rest of the ride. Went by the Opera National de Paris Garnier, famous for the Phantom of the Opera, then back through the Louvre to our original pick up stop to end the tour. Walked back by the Cave we had located hoping to find the Dolin Karen has been looking for. This objective has become all consuming. Unsuccessful in two different specialty shops. Walked around looking at menu boards and decided upon Le Benjamin. Our waiter Jeremy was truly exceptional - which was a delightful surprise as the British and French up til now have been allergic to service. Food was really good and price not outrageous. After finally warming up, it was close to 10 pm. Another full day with lots of walking. Found our way back to Britainnique and retired for the night. Planning to visit Notre Dame and the Louvre next day, weather expected to cool down.
