Paris Day 4

Did the petit dejeuner francais thing in the morning, then walked over to Notre Dame. The queue for the towers was already long, so we went into the church first.  What an amazing thing to see.  The church is huge.  Walked around the perimeter and read about the history of the construction, took a long time to build this classic gothic structure.  Went out to line up for the towers (about 45 min, wonder what it's like in high season?).  Climbed all the way up and inspected the gargoyles and belfry.  Another climb to the top of the towers for a spectacular panorama of Paris.  Long descent and out.  Unfortunately, the Crypt Acheologic was closed for renovation, so we weren't able to see the roman ruins underlying the cathedral.  Walked over to the Latin Quarter and then along the Riv Gauche.  Found yet another brasserie for lunch before heading over to La Louvre.  This place is completely overwhelming in size and scope.  The layout is a labyrinth of salles, with far to much to see in the 3-4 hours we had allotted.  We just managed to locate the highlights listed on the map and our tour book before giving up.  Another day of walking, walking, walking.  Fortunately, our hotel is nearby and we stopped there for a quick change and off to find some Moulles et Frites.  Asked at the desk, where she googled it for us (have to say the desk staff have not been terribly knowledgeable about the neighborhood).  We were directed to Hall's Beer Tavern nearby on Rue St. Denis.  Kind of a rough looking place, quite small.  Got a cramped little table in the front corner.  Folks on the patio outside smoking furiously. Moulles were good, atmosphere left a little to be desired.  It had started to rain heavily, so we opted for some more wine in hopes it would stop.  It did and we were able to get back without getting wet.  Planning a shopping day to see if we can locate all the stuff we didn't know we couldn't get along without.
