Elmenteita

We departed the Tree Hotel and began a long drive to the Lake Nukuru National Park.  Along the way, we stopped at Thompson's Falls.

 Quite spectacular, named after the Briton dispatched to East Africa in search of Dr. Livingston.  Endured a bit of harassment from local vendors for pictures and curios.  Then on to cross the equator once more, this time we stopped and were treated to an "experiment" demonstrating the coreolis effect.  More shopping. Checked the tires and off again.  A long drive with a few short cuts brought us to the Lake Nukuru Park. Had a very nice lunch at the Sarova Lion Hill Lodge inside the park and then off for a game drive.  Thousands of Cape Buffalo.  Saw both White and Black Rhino (not related to colour, rather a mis-translation of the Afrikaans word for Wide - relating to the wide muzzel on the grazing rhino, opposed to the narrow muzzel on the browsing rhino), Water Bucks and a Lion nestled up in a tree inspecting her next meal.  There were some flamingos off in the distance but because the lake level has risen considerably in the last few years, the majority have moved elsewhere.  Apparently, this lake has no outlet and is heavily influenced by precipitation which has increased attributed to climate change.

After the game drive, had a fairly short journey to Lake Elmenteita Camp.  Now I have to take back my earlier comment about Samburu Intrepid Camp as being "Glamping". It was nice, but we have now discovered what Glamping is really like.

 Suffice to say Karen is happy. This place Is truly spectacular.  Too bad we are just here over night.  We have arrived and checked in.  Freshened up a bit and I'm blogging at the lounge while awaiting everyone to arrive for dinner.  Anticipating a special evening, but then an early start again tomorrow as we have a lot of ground to cover to reach Maasai Mara National Park.
