With the kids safely back home, we settled in anticipating another bout of unseasonably cold weather, and that’s what we got. It was near freezing all day and intermittently drizzling. Started to think about our upcoming travels and what/how to pack for Mardi Gras followed by Hilton Head. The only outing for K was a quick trip to grab a couple of packing related and pain management items as the weather combined with the past month of unusual activities have exacerbated her knee troubles. Mostly though, the day was consumed by quiet time reading. I did get out to ambulate the Panther Canyon hike from its trailhead at the Comal Springs. The trail winds up from the Landa Lake along an ephemeral draw cutting through the Lower Cretaceous Glen Rose/Edwards formation limestones of the Edwards Plateau into the Balcones Escarpment. If I haven’t mentioned before, the Balcones Escarpment is a major topographical feature that separates the farming lowlands from the ranching uplands of Central Texas. West of the escarpment is the Texas Hill Country with erosional features creating beautiful hills and valleys. It was a pleasant walk on an unpleasant afternoon. Back to the condo and we were hunkered in for the evening.
