Reconnoitering New Braunfels

Our first full day at the destination saw us wanting to get our bearings.  Started slow putzing around the condo and then set out to explore.  First stop was Land Park Golf very nearby.  This looks to be a real stroke of luck (excuse the pun) as the course appears to be in great shape.  Managed to get a tee time for Monday morning so that will be the real test.  From there, we drove through Landa Park and by Comal Springs.  Looking forward to exploring this area on foot.  Swung around the outskirts of NB and located the Pedago eBike rental business.  It was closed, but did not appear to be out of business.  May be only open on weekends?  We’ll see.  Then back though downtown, we headed over to the unlikely 7-11 because Social CBD website indicated that their products can be purchased there.  Not the case (unsurprisingly) but serendipitously we stumbled upon a bright green shanty advertising the products being sought.  Check. From there, we went searching for Dicks Sporting goods.  After struggling with the labyrinthine big box shopping area, we found the place.  We were able to get the products we needed and then set out to find Willies Road House as we were once more Hungry, Tired and Thirsty.  Note the ever present theme of our many vacations.  Once more in the labyrinth, I might have gotten a bit testy trying to find it.  Predictably, this Texas chain restaurant was a bit disappointing.  Once fed, we headed over to Gruene, which we should have done in the first place.  Parked and snooped around Gruene Hall briefly before settling in for a chilly glass of beer at the Gruene Grove which will be great on a warmer day.  Headed back to the condo on Gruene Road, which I think will take a few traverses to make it easy to find. At the condo we unpacked our wares and I discovered that the 5 iron was missing from the set just purchased.  Called Dicks and decided to head back over there to get resolution.  Turned out that the reason the set was discounted was because the 5 iron was missing (that was not mentioned and never occurred to me).  Anyway, to make a long story short, they offered a random 5 iron to complete my set or a further discount.  Not really wanting to re-open the whole pricing fiasco, I decided to take the mismatched iron.  While driving back to Dick’s, Tim Cone called and asked if we’d be interested in meeting for a drink if they popped up to NB?  Said that would be great once I got my errands completed and in fact we did meet them at McAdoos Seafood for a glass of wine and appetizer.  Great to connect with Tim and Dru and we had a great visit touching upon some activities we look forward to sharing with them.
