The day commenced with some travel fatigue (exacerbated by other indulgences), but we did get organized for a round of golf at the Bandit course east of NB. Karen put together a career round potting three birdies (put a dent in her birdie juice). The balance of the foursome, not so much. It was a sunny and very warm but windy day on the links. Even in February the sun can be intense and the winter complexion of our recently arrived Canadians wound up being a bit worse for wear. Right after we finished playing, another Alberta Clipper pulled in and we watched the mercury drop rapidly even as we drove the short way back towards NB. Gassed up at Buc’ees - what a ridiculous place it is. I think we figured there are over 120 gas pumps at this Mecca of truck stops on the I-35. Grabbed some of the famous beef jerky and back to the condo (via Gruene) for a nap. Once everyone was rested and polished, we cast about for something to do ahead of picking up Alex at SAT. Myles found a good review for Rosario’s near the airport, and everyone was hungry so we headed that way, sooner than we needed to as it turned out. Found the place easily and while the cavernous room was cacophonous and fairly busy, we got seated right away. The menu was pretty standard fair for Mexican food, complete with Texas sized portions. All in all pretty good chow with prompt service piping hot. That left us with time to kill until Alex’s flight so we cast about for some sort of diversion (i.e. the kids googled bowling, escape rooms and night clubs). Decided on the Bang Bang Room which didn’t appear to be too far into town on San Pedro Ave hoping for some live music. Found the place no problem, tucked in behind what appeared to be storage lockers - a bit of a sketchy looking place to be sure. Turned out to be an eclectic cocktail bar with some interesting decor and old living room style furnishings. Grabbed a couch and easy chair and ordered up some drinks. Unfortunately, there was no live music but the place was rather interesting. Met my new bff Addie who was sitting at the next table but because of the oddly placed furniture, was kind of sitting with us. Addie took a shine to Matthew and proceeded to make everyone uncomfortable with her assessments of the four of us. Karen guzzled the rest of her drink and we made a hasty exit. We were back to the cell phone lot at SAT with lots of time to spare. Alex arrived on time and we were able to pick her up curbside easily. The drive back to NB was complicated by a fairly big wreck of transport trucks on the outskirts of NB which led to a bit of circuitous route picking. We did find our way eventually and got to the Condo. By this time, the temperature had dropped right back down to freezing, hoping the weather doesn’t turn bad for the rest of this long weekend with our kids etc.
