Tourist depart

Our planned departure to SAT was 10:15 so I was surprised to find readiness at 10:00 and we were off.  The I-35 was not terribly busy and we had no delays getting to the airport a bit earlier than necessary.  After our good byes at the curbside drop off, we wished them safe travels (Alex direct to Denver while the boys had a connection through Dallas).  Winter storm warnings were threatening but not expected to show up until next day so we were hopeful that no travel problems would afflict the vagabonds.  Turned out Alex had a slight departure delay but otherwise home without inconvenience.  The boys were a bit worried about a short connection time and a long gate transit, but in the end, their first leg was a bit early and there was a 2 hour delay in the second leg departure, so connection was  made trouble free.  Upon arrival at YYC, Matthew was “randomly” selected for arrival COVID-19 testing.  So his relationship with COVID management has not gotten better.  To add insult to injury, he did receive his PCR test from the Walgreens after getting home.  He has had his share of issues getting travel testing done (including several missteps in his last visit to Denver).  Regardless, K&I are relieved that nothing terribly untoward transpired while travelling in the winter and everyone is home safe and sound.  The rest of our day consisted of tackling chores (laundry) in preparation for departure from NB in a couple of days.  It was a beautiful sunny day (80 F) which allowed me to catch some rays by the pool and take a dip in the Comal river.  Very pleasant thing to do indeed.  Also, I’m not sure I mentioned that when we arrived here, it was rather cold.  The condo has an electric fireplace that we couldn’t get working.  The maintenance man (Sandy’s husband Mike) ordered a new remote control, which was delivered today.  At first, the new remote didn’t solve the problem, but after removing the glass front, we discovered that there is a power switch in an otherwise inaccessible location.  With that switched on, and with the new remote, we had another heat source.  Sadly, the forecast suggests we are going to need it.
