Early golf and more reconnaissance

After a light b’fast, we hustled over to Landa Park for another round at the not too difficult golf course, not too difficult that is for a golfer with even a modicum of talent.  While trying to get on the green, we left some equipment in Landa Lake shown here! As a twosome, we were able to get er done in under 3 and a half hours, so not too much of our day was taken up.  Decided to try out Herbert’s for lunch and sat outside sipping a margarita with the usual Mexican fare.  Managed to get the rest of our laundry done at the coin op located in the complex in the afternoon (yes, there are mundane tasks to be dealt with on “vacation”) and then relaxed sun bathing by the pool.  We noticed that folk enjoy fitness swimming in the river, which can be done over fairly long distances unimpeded.  The current is steady and slow with weirs controlling the flow intermittently.  The source of the Comal river is nearby where there is artesian spring flow from the Edwards aquifer.  The springs provide a very steady flow rate and consistent temperatures (68 F) year round.  In seeking an alternative to Landa Park golf, I found a public course not too far away called “The Bandit”.  I was able to make very attractive tee times (later in the morning than was possible at Landa Park) for Monday and Thursday (the latter with our boys when they are here next week).  I was somewhat disconcerted by that, and decided we should take a drive over and see just how sketchy a place it could be.  Turns out, the course is part of a new home development just a bit east of New Braunfels (about 5 miles), and the course/club house actually looked to be quite nice.  I guess we’ll find out Monday when we play there.  The cost not much more than Landa Park either.  On the way back, stopped at a car wash to get the mud off.  Sadly, without any supplies to dry off, we acquired a nice film of dust getting back to the condo through the construction zones.  Speaking of construction, with most of the attractions closed for the off season, there is lots of maintenance/improvement going on around here.  Wrapped up our day with another quiet evening at River Run and ETB.
